What takes the top teams so long is that they're arguing with
each other about which of them was most responsible for
winning.  Suppose a team (let's call it Death or Glory, say)
has seven people out there (let's call them moonEE, T-Man,
Cork, Count, Kinesthesia, Jordan, and JB, for argument's
sake).  Here's what happens:

T-Man: Did you see me roast that guy?  
Count: Pff, downfield cuts are easy.  Try to get open 8 times
on handler cuts in a point, like I do, and 'create' the whole
offense. 
Kinesthesia: And try a difficult throw every single pass.  If
you didn't always try to force it, maybe you would complete
149 backhands in a row like I did once.  
Cork: Guys, when you're throwing to me, it's easy to complete
it.  All you have to do is put it within 20 yards.  
T-Man:  Unless I'm covering you, then you better start playing
D, or better yet, just start walking back to the line for the
next point.  
moonEE:  What?  I've been playing this game for 23 years and
I'm won more tournaments than you've even seen.  Have any of
you won Nationals?  
Count: No, I've been saddled with the likes of you all for too
long.  There's only so much the best thrower in the game can
do for a team.  
Kinesthesia: I haven't lost a tournament final in which I've
played more than 3 points since 1991.  
All: Corporate.  
Kinesthesia: Jesus Christ, it's a miracle we even made it that
far.  Did you see our team? 
Cork: No, they were too busy getting out of your way to be
seen.  
T-Man: And I've been on every one of your teams.  Maybe that's
why you make it to the finals.  All I know is that Earth
sucked, I moved into town and start playing for them, 
and they're in Nationals that fall.  
Count: Yeah, like you threw more than 4 passes that fall.  
Jordan: Dude, Earth was the best.  Remember when we kicked
Titanic's ass at Wellesley. They sucked. 
Cork: Guys, let's put that Earth/Titanic stuff behind us.
Focus on the present.  Besides, we let you win that game.  
T-Man: Is that why they let you play so much that game?  
JB: What the hell are you guys talking about?  
Other team: HEY, WE'RE READY!  
Cork: Shut up, we're talking strategy.  Now, watch how far I
can throw this forehand. Maybe if you all weren't such wusses,
you could too.  
T-Man: I can.  
Count: What about the backhand?  I can huck it from anywhere.
Kinesthesia: But it's usually incomplete.  You should just
take the easy throw.......
