Stalled ------- From: parinell@ATHENA.MIT.EDU (James C Parinella) Subject: Re: "Ten", "Stall" Date: 2 Feb 1994 17:55:12 GMT At Boulder this summer, the "ten-stall" controversy came up in the BB/NY game (no flames please). One of the Big Brother guys was being stalled by Cribber about five yards from the end zone. Cribber counts, "Eight...nine...STALL!" and starts to run away downfield so he can catch the 70 yard hammer from Kenny for the goal. The BB player just completely freezes up, doesn't drop the disc or anything. One of his teammates starts yelling, "He didn't say ten! He didn't say ten!" At this point, Cribber, who is now about 20 yards away and flying, then screams "Ten!". Still the BB thrower stands like a deer in the headlights. Another BB player yells, "He can't stall you, he's too far away. Throw it! Throw it!" At this point, BB thrower gets his act together and dumps it five yards forward for the easy goal to an uncovered teammate. Needless to say, there was some discussion on what to do. After some good points were made on both sides, BB gave the disc up despite having the letter of the law on their side. I guess it was worth the story. Jim Parinella
