The "Field of Death" is brutal to
us. Five of us and a few Friends of DoG brave it out. We lose two, win two..
That meant that we had to play Philly in the game to go. To the
quarterfinals. I had a phenomenal game after making perhaps 4 cuts on
Saturday. With the score tied late, I get a block on Brendan, then Souheil
picks the disc up and hits Brendan in the back of the head with it, and we
trade out to a one goal loss, while Philly cruises through the remainder of
the tournament. Zaz shows up after our game, asking when we play next. He
finds another team, we drive back and play Scan Game for 2.5 hours, with Revi
Shankar being a frequent answer. Now let us never speak of this again. |

Well, we won this for the first time since
1994, with only one team. I have no notes on this one, and indeed, couldn’t
be bothered to write more than "M-Day 6-0 1st". Oh,
Brian played with Snapple as we crushed them in the finals. |

In what many regard as the best NUA
tournament ever, DoG cruises through much to the delight of the fans. Toad
and his fellow refs called a tight ship, sent Zaz to the showers, and issued
a yellow card to Andy Sheeman of NY for arguing for being called offsides by
a toe. We won a game 25-14 in 90 minutes. And we came up with all sorts of
plans on working the clock, which quickly led to a more-optimized set of
rules for timekeeping. |

In what many regard as the best
called-off-NUA tournament ever, we lost two one-pointers in pool play and a
bigger one in the finals. The three day tournament was reduced to two for us
after we had purchased tickets for a two-day NUA tournament. We picked up
Sully the day of the tournament, along with locals Zeke and Ian. We thought
our semis was to 17 instead of 15, and then played that game to cap, and came
out flat in the finals, expecting the Condors to drop to our level. It was 8-4
before we realized it. I didn’t get fired up until one of the Condors (can’t
remember which one, tall, thin, tan guy, you know who you are) played
grabbsies with my jersey. "You do that EVERY TIME!" I yell.
"I’ve only covered you one other point." "Uh, yeah, and you
grabbed me then, too." We lost, 15-10 or 11. I shot an 82 at Estes Park
instead of hiking, very cool watching the ball rise and fall in front of the
mountains, course is only average otherwise. |

Had a pretty full team for once. We didn’t
go to Club Worlds that summer, remembering the previous year’s burnout.
Sockeye went and beat Double in what many regard as one of the ugliest finals
ever. Or so the drunken rsd "fans" said. Anyhoo, Sockeye beat us in
the finals. |

No clue. My stat book says I was there, and
I can’t really argue with it. Oh, I remember now. I shot an 81 at Butternut
the day before the tournament, with an 11 on the deadly par-5 10th
hole. You see, it was the end of the fiscal year, I had a day of comp time,
and I went golfing. |

The Comeback. 7-0 run on Sockeye to start their third straight
finals loss, followed by 5 goal run for them initiated with a Full Haskell.
Beat Z and Double (backdoor entry via Pack of Lies’ (Portland) turning down
the invite) in pool play. SF women blew bubbles into my face while I was
diving for a disc. Cork expressed his disapproval of their actions. I took
the spiked SOTG disc and put it into my bag after the final goal of the Ring
comeback against NY Saturday morning that qualified them for semis. The
Spirit gods, if they exist, showed disfavor by giving Ring a 10-4 lead, then
they must have started to play silly frisbee games as we came back to win
17-15. Then the finals, when Mooney got Bobbed and broke his collarbone.
Phrase "loser beer" unhappily coined, as that limited us to one
free beer from the bountiful beer truck. |

42-7, 5 wins, 2 seconds, 1
"other". Fewest tournaments and games in my recorded history.
Newbies included the Diceman Daisuke Koyama and three guys over 30. The term
"Seeger contract" allowed Jay to practice part-time in return for
part-time play, but he played so damn well we had to keep him in all the time.
GE played their final Corporate League game, clearing the way for the first
of Tech’s consecutive 5-2 titles. My golf game really blossomed, with a slew of scores in the
low 80s, and finally shot a 79 with a tough up-and-down on the 18th
after chunking a wedge on 16 for a double bogey. |
