3-1 vs NY

Revenged some of our many losses the previous year, and finally won on the Field of Death. NY had two teams (each larger than our one), we played each twice. Melissa Ditz kicked us off "their" field for their semis. Dave Gessner begins and ends his Plimptonesque comeback.

Mothers’ Day

7-0, 1st

??

Second title in a row in the mud at Tinicum, probably the last tournament there in a long time. Beat Ring in the finals like 11-7, because they had to go home.

Easterns

8-0, 1st

All

Easterns returns to its former splendor, as Henry Baker pulls together the tournament. Almost all of the Nationals teams from east of the Mississippi attend. Sub Zero is a surprise high finisher, a prelude to their Central Region championship and a 3-3 record at Nationals.

August

Worlds, Minnesota

10-2, 3rd

Lost to Canada twice

The world improves. The US and Sweden both lose in the semis as Canada beats Japan for the title. In pool play, it was DoG over Sweden, Sweden over Canada, Canada over DoG for a 3 way tie. Sweden got the "easy" matchup of Japan. Fields were very lush, but slow since they were so thick. We did crossword puzzles in the dorm. DH kids lost and quit the team. Perhaps they had decided ahead of time.

Tuneup

Name them, we lost to them

Interesting schedule, but too much for a hot day. 6 games on Saturday, all of them close. Went 2-1 in the first pool, advanced to the top half. Then went 1-2 in that pool, beating eventual champion Ring by 1, but losing to NY by 1 after being up late and to Sockeye by a few, and so we were sent to the B pool. We went down 7-2 to Red Tide, then have a spirited comeback to tie it at 10-10, next point wins. But they completed another huck to win it and send us drinking. Small squad again.

Sectionals

4-0, 1st

Narrowly beat Dark Horse in finals. They had the lead late, and threatened to expand it, but a wide open DH guy caught a disc near the goal line, leapt into the end zone, and began celebrating, and by the time he came back to the line, we were there too. They turned it, we scored to tie, we won a close one. First game of note in Sectionals since Big Brother eked out a one pointer against Earth Atomizer in 1991.

 October

Regionals

4-0, 1st

NY and Red Tide

A return to the single-elimination format. .Beat Red Tide in a listless game Saturday to qualify for Nationals, then had a tough 2 point win over NY on Sunday to win the Region. The 19 of us did ro-cham-pushups, 10 at a time, winner drops out, plus 19 sprints. DH blew it. They lost a one pointer to NY on Saturday, then a 2 pointer to Red Tide in what was the most exciting game I’ve ever watched. RT had KD and EO, were hucking it wildly and coming down with it. Jordan seen walking around after game yelling, "Plane tickets to Nationals for sale cheap."

Everyone

Our fifth in a row, tying NYNY’s string. Again the famed NW underachieved, with no semifinalists. We avenged our loss to Furious George, 17-9. The big kid who killed us at Worlds was brought back to earth. TGPITG made a big block in the end zone, walked it up and called time out, at which point Bob Lobel stormed on the field and yelled, "You own him Paul Greff!" Kid’s lower lip protruded, and he looked down at the ground and shuffled away. Story of the tournament was the Condors, beating FG also, and narrowly missed beating us twice. First game was windy, windy, windy, only 2 or 3 upwinders scored. At next point wins, a scoober was caught on the line for an apparent game winner, but it was too close to call, went back, next try was thrown away. Team then moves it up against the zone for the win. John Bar throws a push pass that point, drawing an audible gasp from the 700 players gathered around to watch the only game still going on. Semis was uneventful win against NY, finals was against Condors. Won 17-14 after The Huck from Greff to Seeger put us back on top after squandering a 4 goal lead. Again pretty windy. Gewirtz had picked us to lose for the 4th straight year.

49-7, 6 wins, 1 3rd place, 1 "other". We said hello to Doug Moore and Zak Wills, goodbye to Jethro, and sayonara to Daisuke. Tech beat Brown by 1 in what many term the best Corporate League final ever. Nathan stole the trophy. Tea Party beats Elwood Hound at Hingham. Despite what we said the year before, no one with 2 knees retires. "Seeger contract" is extended for another year. My golf game is pretty good, with a really nice stretch from July to October.
