Saturday was a mess. Blackjack had us on the ropes and merely had to trade out for the win, but let it slip away. At the party that night they were rather dejected. Ironman goes topless at the bonfire. Sunday was one of those magical times where everything goes right. "Hammers were raining down" on unfortunate Blackjack and NY teams. |

6-1, semis |
L to Florida |
|

Yet another mind-boggling uninspired loss to Florida, although not with as bloated of a team. The overall level of the tournament wasn’t as high, but we still had some close games. And our loss (semis this year) was remarkably similar in script to the previous year’s "effort." Bright side is that players like Nathan have still never won Easterns. |

Offensive showcase. "Hogan’s Heroes suddenly seems a lot more plausible," "Slow down, Brainiac." Motel squanders thousands of dollars by not opening its bar until Wednesday. TD is Germanically uncreative and so we have transportation and ice troubles. Mr. Haskell accompanies team. 88 pound trophy gets checked in on airplane back to America. |

Tuneup |
8-0, 1st |
1 point wins over Sockeye and Sub Zero, near loss to Chicago that would have sent us to B pool |
|
|
|
Our 2nd Tuneup victory, my first, as I missed the inaugural event in 1994. A little windy at times, making play appear ugly. One point win in the finals. Final throw was a 20 yard blade from me to Forch, and while the disc was in the air, I began celebrating with a "Genius!" call. Transition zone debuts, but D won’t tell O what it is so O can’t help and therefore talk amongst themselves during play. "39" O taken to new levels. Nearly sent to B pool by Zaz and Mike Glass of Chicago |

Our O is flawless
in the finals until Alex says "We don't have a turnover" early in
the 2nd half. We turn it over. A couple points later, he says, "At least
we haven't been scored on." He dumps it to Lars and watches them score.
'nuf said. Jim "UPA
something" Parinella is kept busy in myriad ways unrelated to his job. I
missed the first half of game 1 due to a roster fiasco. Then as I'm watching
the exciting Midvale/Blackjack game in the last round that day, I'm suddenly
aware that 200 people are looking at me wondering whether I was going to
enforce the cap or not. And on Sunday, I had to explain to a team why the
format rules that I had seen for the first time the day before were the way
they were and why they were eliminated. |
