Allies loses to Phoenix and Goat, two new additions to the list.  Axis avenges those defeats

The team splits along WWII lines, roughly.  This led to a lot of jokes beforehand about the Swiss being neutral and the French being surrender monkeys and the Jews feeling a little squeamish about the whole concept.  Jim, Alex, Forch, and Simon (who blew off his Boss Hogg team's final game of the day) golfed afterward, with Jim winning convincingly despite a four-putt on the second hole.  As expected, Jim and Al win the party that night, although Jim's foosball game leaves a lot to be desired.  On Sunday morning, Jeff convinces Al to leave his bag in the car while they go to watch both Boss Hogg teams lose in the pre-quarters, so Al decides to put his keys in the bag in the trunk first. Thus, the quarterfinals begin with Jeff playing in tennis shoes and Jim wandering around the fields looking for a pair of cleats.  Axis outlasts NY's outlandishly-sized team (or so we thought at the time) 15-12 in the finals.   In a touching tribute to our fallen comrade Justin Safdie, Forch overthrows Jim by 35 yards, Jim sprints after it to close the gap to 10 yards before diving and injuring himself.

Q is for the Q in quarters
U is for the U in you-oo suck
A is for the A in ah-hah
R is for the R in are you done
T is for the T in ten in stall

Easterns

7-1, 2nd L to Sub-Zero

I miss the first game while attending a birthing class.  O isn't broken the remainder of Saturday, although SZ had two or three goal-line opportunities to do so.  Outlast Ring by 1 in the semis, game-winner from Paul to Jim, nearly 80 years old between them.  The finals started off well enough. After a brick, we scored in 3 or 4 passes, then Subzero dropped the pull. Our D matched it with a first pass turnover, and after another exchange of to's, SZ scored. "Well, those first two points were practically identical," I remarked.  D gets its act together, but then O gets broken 4 straight to lose half.  D ties it up in the 2nd half, O gets broken again and we lose 15-13.

Tuneup 5-2, 3rd L to Sub-Zero, Goat

In the last official Tuneup, we lose to a 9 man team from Canada in the semis, forcing only 3 turnovers, none of them after about the 6th point of the game.  We lose yet another game to Sub-Zero.  We did beat plenty of other teams, though.

Our record in ten years at Tuneup:  61-15, 3 tournament victories, 4 finals losses, 2 semis losses, 1 other.  The tournament may happen next year, but it is unclear whether DoG would go, as it will be important to get other competition against top-level nationals foes at tournament like ECC.

September

Sectionals

5-0, 1st

This was the fourth Sectionals I missed.  It looks like the fourth game was DoG's 500th career victory.
October

Regionals

4-0, 1st

Goat comes in with high expectations, but DoG never sees them as Goat loses to Hogg in the semis on Saturday.  Sunday is miserable weather, cold and rainy. We beat Hogg by a lot in the finals, but one point dragged on for at least 30 minutes.  Hogg then beat Goat again for the 2nd spot.

Lost to Ring and Condors

First time since 1990 that Boston was knocked out by someone other than the champs.  First time since 1985 that Boston failed to make semis.  It was windy again in Sarasota. It was a cross-wind this year, providing a better test for the teams than in upwind/downwind games.  After sparkling in practice, our offense suffered in the strong wind, as our long throws were crap, which in turn altered the cutting and offensive flow.  Nearly all the deep looks came with the disc on the trapped sideline, making even unmarked throws difficult.  There are several reasons this happened:  our handlers never got the disc in hucking position (I'll guess that 80% of our huck attempts came from receivers), our offense continued to force it up the line, and our throws aren't as strong as they used to be/they should be/other teams'.  The D also struggled offensively.  No doubt, these were difficult playing conditions.

36-7, 3 victories, 1 finals loss, 1 semis loss, 2 other

New players:  Several.  Lost John Bar to retirement and Lyn to Afghanistan.

Lifetime:  510-70, 53 titles, 18 2nd, 9 semis losses, 9 other.
